WHERE I'M FROM

Where I’m From

I am from the warm jam painted toast I eat in the morning,

and the water bottle sitting on my desk at school that keeps me hydrated

From Subzero and theTimex watch I wear every single school day

I am from the white apartment that’s filled with candles

I am from birch trees in the woods by my dads house,

the chipmunks that scurry around outside that my cat watches

I am from Christmas at my uncles and aunts house

and my funny family, from Toby, Heather, from McGrath, and Jordan

I am from Aquabogan and Funtown SplashTown

From “Say excuse me” and “Use please and thank you”

I am from Maine, eating big red lobsters, and my mom eating salads

I am from the books and the toys on the shelf in my room

Realistic Fiction and Character Development

One summer day, Frank Dudman and his dad were going somewhere. But Frank didn't exactly know where they were going. When they got there, Frank recognized the place. It was the Coastal Maine Humane Society. They were going to buy a dog! "You're really buying a dog?" Frank asked his father. As they were stepping inside, they noticed it was dark. They didn't see them , but there were giant lizards scurrying on the walls and ceilings. They could hear them. The dogs couldn't smell the lizards because they were sleeping. Suddenly a lizard on the wall stepped on the light switch and flicked it on. Franks' dad said "Finally, the lights are on." A lizard screeched and scurried away.

Snowflake Bentley

SNOWFLAKE BENTLEY

Snowflake Bentley is famous because he was the first person to photograph a snowflake. His name was Wilson, and his mother was his teacher until he was 14 years old. He grew up in Vermont on a farm. When he was 15 he bought a camera because he wanted to take pictures of snowflakes. He wasn’t successful at first, but he kept trying and figured out how to get the picture before the snowflake melted. He took hundreds of pictures of snowflakes.

The best snowstorm of his life happened on Valentines Day in 1928. Wilson took over a hundred pictures of snowflakes over the two-day storm. He called the storm “ a gift from King Winter.

Wilson also took pictures in the summer. He took pictures of spider webs and insects. He also hung up a sheet and did a slideshow for his neighbors on summer nights.

He discovered that no two snowflakes are exactly alike. He loved what he did! Many colleges bought his pictures of snowflakes and lots of artists used his photographs to draw pictures of snowflakes.

Snowflake Bentley died from pneumonia after he had walked home in a blizzard. But he will always be remembered as the first person to capture a snowflake.

My Family

I love my Mom sooooooooooo much!! I feel bad that she is sick. I am sad because I miss her but I am happy to have her for a mom! Sometimes she can play with me-but like all moms, they have to wash the dishes. “Yipee.” She is so awesome! I wish she could volunteer. I wonder what she is up to right now. She is very pretty. My mom lives in an apartment at Whispering Pines. She lives with our cat Ollie O-l-l-i-e. He is cute. She also lives with our fish, Swimmy and he has a lot of energy. I live… well, my mom and dad are divorced, so I live with both. My dad lives in a a brown house. We have a betafish, we used to have two, one for daddy and one for me. Mine died. Now daddy’s is ours. Mine lived in my room and the other one lives in the bathroom. Now, time to talk about my grampa. He is great, big, and fun and once he gave me a diet coke! My grampa has a very, very cute puppy whose name is Harley. He is named after the Harley Davidson motorcycles. He is cute, like Ollie. Harley even has his own doggy door! My grampa is pretty cool. Now time for my uncle-wait a second I bet I know what you are thinking! What about my grama!? Well, she died. O.K. Like I said, on to my uncle. He broke his arm. He is still cool though. He has a Wii with Wii fit, Ultimate Alliance Two, and that’s all I can remember. He has no pets. He lives in a house or an apartment. (I really do not know.) Well it is in Windham. Now, my aunt lives with my uncle, and she is very pretty, funny and comfy like my mom. Now, my great grandmother. (I do not know that much about her, but I will tell you three things.) She lives in a mobile home, she lost her hearing, and she lives in Mexico, Maine. I have been there. On to my cousins. No pets. I really don’t know much at all about one thing. I am gonna tell you that some are a lot older some are younger and some are a lot younger. And some are older. Now my other uncle he lives with most of my cousins. He is my dad’s brother. I call him Uncle Seth. Nana is right… And now!

She lives with my Uncle Seth. Once she came with my other grampa about one week early for my 8th birthday. My other grampa is pretty much the same. Well… I KNOW I have more family! Good bye!

My Last Dream by Sam

I was falling asleep one night and I was dreaming about Avitar. Poofzzzzzz…. “Oh come on” Saku said. They were in the dead end of air vent about above the Water Bending practice house in the North Pole. Kataru and Ang were training. “Let’s go” said Ang “OK “ mumbled Katura. Ching, ching, kick, I could hear the sound of his feet hitting the ground. The training was just about to start. Swish swish made the sound of the moving water. Ang started looking for Katara, and a few minutes later he found him.

I suddenly woke up and I thought that was the best dream ever.
